Entrepreneurship Training Workshop

Entrepreneurship Training Workshop (ETW) is EDC’s flagship entrepreneurship development program. The behavioral approach, which the ETW is based on, aims at developing entrepreneurship as a set of specific competencies and practices that can be observed, recognized, applied and acquired by entrepreneurs on their daily lives. By fostering participants’ motivation and self-confidence, the ETW manages to show entrepreneurs the difference between merely running a business and building a growth-oriented enterprise.

Training is delivered by more than 50 certified national, master and international trainers who have entrepreneurial practices and experiences by themselves. The training is a 6-day and 48 hours long course.  EDC offers this training in three major local languages (Amharic, Afaan Oromoo, and Tigrigna) as well as in English.

ETW’s unique methodology, rooted in researches conducted in the late 1960s by David McClelland, psychologist at Harvard University, is based on the assumption that everyone has an inner motivation to improve. The training is learners centered, practical, hands-on attitudinal and behavioral change training program built upon adult learning principles. Much of the facilitation is done by way of case studies, games, role play, exercises and experiential sharing.

The direct beneficiaries of ETW include existing SMEs that have a track record of good business performance, potential entrepreneurs with promising business ideas, and start-up companies with good bankable project proposals. It is expected that the individual development of the entrepreneurs that takes place during an ETW will lead to SME growth, linkages with larger enterprises including transnational corporations, job creation, increased investment, and regional economic development.

Participants who successfully complete the programme and fulfill the training requirements will be provided with a Certificate of Participation. The requirements include full attendance of all sessions and successfully completing assignments throughout the training programme.
