Startup Ethiopia got an aim of re branding Ethiopia as a startup hub and give the opportunity to the youth from all over the country to dream big and have the exposure that will allow them to learn and develop their passion while solving big problems along the way. The 2019 Start-up Ethiopia, was opened colorfully on the 8th of June by a dance performance of destino dance group & following opening remarks given by Dr.Ing.Mekuria & Dr. Eleni Gabre-Madhin.

Oxfam in Ethiopia and EDC Work Together to Empower Youth

EDC and Oxfam Ethiopia’s Empower Youth for Work (EYW), a project funded by IKEA Foundation, signed a MOU to work together on empowering youth in rural and semi-urban areas of Ethiopia, specifically Arsi and West Arsi Zones of Oromia and Sitti and Faafen Zones of the Somali regions.

ETW Resumed

The Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC)-Ethiopia restarted providing one of its flagship training, Entrepreneurship Training Workshop, after being discontinued for a couple of months. The 634 and 635 ETW rounds took place from June 17-29, 2019 at Momona Hotel. A total of 56 clients attended the training program for six consecutive days in each round.

Celebrating International Women’s Day

On March 8, a strong group of 26 women entrepreneurs gathered at the EDC headquarters in Addis Ababa to commemorate International Women’s Day under the 2018 theme #PressforProgress. The women entrepreneurs came from various industries such as leather, printing press, daycare, and hospital to services and even construction – a mostly male-dominated industry.
