Recognition of EDC ANRS at the Amhara Women Entrepreneurs Association
Amhara Women Entrepreneurs Association (AWEA) has held its General Regular Assembly Meeting in Bahir Dar from 2-3, July 2017 where EDC’s Amhara Office was recognized for the trainings and business development support services that was provided to women entrepreneurs across the region.
Over the course of 4 months, training was provided to 454 women in 9 towns, namely: Bahir Dar, Gonder, Debre Markos, Woldiya, Kombolcha, Addis Zemen, Merawi, Injibara and Debre Birhan towns across the region. In addition, Business Development Support was provided to 113 women specifically on business plan preparation as well as marketing.
EDC ANRS and AWEA signed a MOU in March 2017 in order to collaborate on women empowerment through fostering the entrepreneurship environment for women in the region. This is accomplished through a cost sharing approach between the two institutions to provide trainings and relevant business development support to women entrepreneurs.
AWEA is an umbrella organization of businesswomen in the Amhara region which was founded by sixty business women in 2000 and is active in 30 regional towns. Its mission is to support women entrepreneurs who play an overt role in the economic and social development of the region by providing business development services in partnership with other stakeholders.
Out of 350,000 business community members in ANRS, 85,000 are women business owners (25%). The association currently has 8,131 active members, and is considered to be the strongest women’s association in the country with business centers currently under construction.
During the General Regular Assembly Meeting, EDC was awarded a certificate of recognition and Assembly participants expressed their appreciation. Both EDC ANRS and AWEA are looking forward to a continued fruitful partnership in the 2010 Ethiopian Fiscal Year.
